How does this listening service work?

iListen specializes in offering the confidential service of listening to you, our most important client. Our intention is to provide a safe space for you to talk to your heart's content. We want you to feel comfortable in our trustworthy environment. We also want you to feel understood.

Why hire a trained listener?

Our trained listeners allow you to speak about whatever is on your mind.

The biggest difference between talking to our listener versus a friend or family is that with iListen, you’ll benefit from a completely confidential conversation without any advice, judgment or criticism.

Sometimes you can't approach friends or family about something that's on your mind - you don't want to talk to them because they are of the opinion they know what's best. Yet you need to talk or vent. It's important.

Feel understood when you share your ideas, your worries, your goals, even what makes you happy!

You need someone to listen. We are here to listen to you.

How will you provide the listening service?

The service will primarily be provided via phone and virtually (Google Meet, or Zoom Meetings).

In the future we will also be offering the service via a cell phone chat app.

Are you a counselor, therapist, companion or crisis line?

Our listeners are specifically trained in active and effective listening. We are not licensed mental health professionals, but we have experience in listening with full awareness, understanding, empathy and care.

We do not provide counseling, therapy, companionship or crisis support. Our job is solely to listen to you, our most valued client. We do not diagnose, give solutions or advice. In talking to our listeners you may find clarity, healing or your own answers.

Can I ask you for advice?

We provide the service of listening. That means you can talk to us without interruption, knowing you will be fully heard and understood. As trained and experienced listeners, we want to ensure you feel complete with what is on your mind.

Thus, we do not provide advice, feedback, guidance or suggestions. If you are looking for a response in this manner, iListen can recommend alternate resources to help you find the appropriate support.

Can you help me if I'm suffering from suicidal thoughts or if I'm in distress?

Your well being is of the utmost importance. As skilled compassionate listeners we do our best to support you. However, our listeners are not trained in supporting clients in extreme crisis.

If you are suffering from suicidal thoughts, extreme grief or other serious mental health emergencies, iListen will refer you to effective alternate resources. If you require immediate medical assistance, our listeners will encourage you to call 911.

How long will you listen to me?

We offer our services with a variety of lengths of time (from 15 minutes to 60 minutes).

If you like the way we listen to you and want to continue talking to us, you can book further individual sessions. We also have packages available where you can book multiple sessions to save money.

How much do you charge for listening?

We offer a free 15-minute consultation session for first-time clients or anyone interested in finding out more about our services.

After your first 15-minute session, our service rates vary depending on length of time. Our sessions start at $20 for a 15-minute session to $215 for packages of four sessions of 75 minutes each session.

What if I'm running late?

If you happen to be a little late for an upcoming session, please message us as soon as possible. Our listeners can wait up to 10 minutes past your scheduled appointment time. If you have not contacted us within that time frame, iListen reserves the right to mark the session as a missed appointment, which is not eligible for a refund or rescheduled appointment.

Further, iListen has other scheduled appointments with clients after your session. Therefore, if you are late, iListen cannot add that missed time to your session. The missed time is considered lost and is not eligible for refunds or rescheduled appointments.

Can I cancel my appointment?

A cancelled appointment affects not just you, but your listener hoping to support you, and another client who could have used your cancelled session. When a session is cancelled without adequate notice, we are unable to offer this time to another client.

However, we understand that life happens, and for some extenuating circumstances we would be pleased to reschedule your short-notice appointment, at iListen’s discretion.

How do I reschedule my appointment?

iListen requires 24-hours notice prior to your scheduled appointment time to reschedule. Clients can reschedule online, or can contact iListen by phone, email or Facebook Messenger to reschedule the session.

As noted in the previous question, iListen may choose (at their discretion) to reschedule appointments for clients giving short notice with extenuating circumstances.

What if I miss the appointment?

Missed appointments are not eligible for rescheduling or refund regardless of the reason.

It is very iemportant you contact us by phone, email or Facebook Messenger in advance of your appointment time to allow us to work with you to reschedule your appointment. Once the appointment has begun and you do not show up without notifying iListen in advance we must mark the appointment as a "no-show."

Do you give refunds?

All sessions and packages booked are non-refundable.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept payments via Paypal, credit card and e-mail transfer.

If you pay online by Paypal or credit card your session will be booked online automatically.

For e-mail transfer please contact us to book your appointment.
